INVOLVING CHILDREN IN COMMUNITY PROJECTS-Collecting Pop Can Tabs

Standard

COLLECTING POP CAN TABS

For a couple of our monthly Community Projects, we collected pop can tabs. I knew of a teacher at one of the local schools that collects then and turns them into Camp Courageous (http://www.campcourageous.org/) who can then receive money for them.

A couple years later, another one of the local schools started collecting them to help raise money for the local Shriner’s Hospital.

Skills Learned During This Project:
-Talked about Camp Courageous & learned about those with special needs
-Talked about the Shriners hospital and how they help people
-Counting Skills (we counted the tabs daily)
-Estimation Skills (I had the kids guess how many they thought were in the jar)
