INVOLVING CHILDREN IN THE COMMUNITY: Sending Flowers to Nursing Homes

Standard

For our July Community Project, we purchased flowers to be delivered to local nursing homes. Hy-Vee grocery store just happened to come up with idea and they had posters by the cash registers saying “for every $1.00 you donate, Hy-Vee will deliver a flower to a local nursing home”, what a great idea! So I asked each of the families to donate $1.00, but asked that they make their child earn the dollar by doing chores, helping with something, etc.. I then took those that raise $1.00 to go purchase the flowers.

Skills Learned/Worked On During This Project:
-Talked about helping others.
-Talked about the trips we had made in the past to the nursing home.
-Talked about what each child had to do to earn their $1.00.
-Counted the money we earned and figured out how many flowers that would buy us.
